Scouts say thanks for help on trip

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Dear editor:

I want to thank you and the Mountain Home News for the assistance in making our canoe trip down the Snake River a huge success.

We had 11 boys and eight dads experience a trip that was a life-changing event. Those young men learned to be resourceful and that they had to be responsible for their actions -- no one else helped them to move their canoe downstream. We traveled 21 miles from Loveridge Bridge downstream to CJ Strike dam over a four-day campout.

The boys learned responsibility for self, experienced nature up close and personal, and enjoyed the beauty that is southern Idaho from the inside of a canoe.

I want to thank all the people in Mountain Home who helped to make the canoe trip happen through their generous donations of time energy and/or equipment. This trip only happened because of the generosity of the following people/organizations:

Equipment (Canoes/camping gear) -- Allen Bermensolo, Tiffany Davis, Quey Johns, Rudy Gingerich, Bud Bennett, Troy at T&V Marine, Mike and Mark and Outdoor Recreation, the hosts at CJ Strike Dam, Harry Granger and Troop 323 in Emmett, Mike Lawrence and Crew 57 of Mountain Home.

Advice/Expertise/Training -- Harry Granger of Troop 323 in Emmett; Troy at T&V Marine; Mike and Mark at Outdoor Recreation; Richard Soto at the Scout Office in Boise; Damien at the Mountain Home Public Pool, and the staff at the Mountain Home News.

Again, thank you for all your help.

Tom Lindsay
