Pioneer Federal Credit Union was thanked by the Migrant Head Start program for donating school supplies for underprivileged children entering kindergarten this fall.

Pioneer Federal Credit Union held a special presentation for the children of Migrant Head Start last Tuesday morning.

Regional Branch Manager Mary Morin and members of her staff, assistant manager Carla Hawk and marketing director Elizabeth Thomas, presented the children with over $300 in donations that the stuff of Pioneer Federal had recently collected, to aid the students, 15 in total, toward their transition into kindergarten.

"We feel that letting the children have a good start in going to school, it will help them to get a better education and to feel good about themselves," said Morin.

The list of donations included 14 backpacks, 22 boxes of crayons, seven boxes of markers, nine packages of #2 pencils, six pencil boxes, 11 scissors and 56 glue sticks (2 pack).

As the children were in awe over their donations, they each took time to shake hands with Morin. Soon after they quickly tried out the backpacks.

At the end of the presentation, Morin was presented with a special sign that read "Thank You Pioneer Federal." The sign also featured painted handprints from each of the Migrant Head Start students.

"It's very helpful, because the families that we serve are low income and with these donations, it will take a load off their minds," said Migrant Head Start coordinator Maria Gutierrez.
