Library summer reading program underway: computer policy noted

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

The Mountain Home Public Library held "the most exciting day of summer 2009," on Monday, July 6, according to librarians, when Summer Reading Program (SRP) participants gave their first book reports.

Parents also are reminded to continue to pre-register every Monday for the craft and science project offered each week throughout the program.

The first SRP family night event will be July 14 at 5 p.m.

Library staff also are reminding all patrons about library board policy on use of the Computer Lab.

The library provides public use computer stations with internet access. Library filtration of the Internet is in compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and access by children and young adults under the age of 17 is filtered.

Parental consent to allow their children access to the internet is required at the time of library card application.

Lab stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A current library card in good standing is required to log onto adult, teen, senior, dual-use or juvenile lab stations.

Children and young adults under 17 may not use another family member or someone else's card to log on to computers because the filtration level would be compromised. Computer privileges will be revoked if another patron's library card is used to log on to the lab.

Temporary users who do not have a library card will need to be logged on from the Circulation Desk and pay a fee of $1 for a block of 60 minutes. A photo ID showing proof of age is required. Those under 17 requesting temporary use of one the library's computers must have parental approval.
