Fourth of July festival slated Saturday in Carl Miller Park

The El-Wyhee Business Association will sponsor the annual Fourth of July Festival in Carl Miller Park on Saturday, July 4.

The festival will begin at 8 a.m., with a pancake and eggs breakfast organized by the Mountain Home Historical Museum.

The breakfast will be followed by a wide variety of activities, starting with a flag raising at 10 a.m. and live musical performances from several artists including Curly and The Common People.

Also starting at 10 a.m., the festival will hold a car show, where residents can display their classic cars, trucks and motorcycles.

The vehicles will be awarded with prizes at the end of the festival, with categories that include Mayor's Choice, People's Choice, Best Paint and Best In Show.

At 10 a.m., an Art In The Park tent will be set up where local artists will display their various artwork in such forms as canvas art, ceramics and metal arts. For more information on Art In The Park contact Patti Hamaishi at 587-2777.

The guests of the festival will choose an Art In The Park "People's Choice" award winner, which will be presented at 4 p.m.

In other events, the Mountain Home cheerleading squad will have a dunk tank on site, to help raise money for their cheer squad and the Wild West Off-Roaders will put on four-wheel demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., the festival will hold the Little Miss El-Wyhee Pageant, where girls 3- to 9-years-old will take part. For more information about the pageant contact Willie Heckathorn at United Metals at 587-7511.

The activities for the children attending the festival will include gaming booths and bouncy houses, while Denise's Pieces will be on hand for kids to paint ceramics.

During the festival, various organizations will be putting on fund raisers, including the Elmore Medical Center, Disabled American Veterans, the Army National Guard (representatives from the Guard will be on hand to answer questions) and also the Marine Corps, which will be raising funds toward Toys For Tots.

Vendors will be on hand to sell hot dogs, hamburgers, snow cones, soda and bottled water.

Mountain Home Air Force Base will put on a display that according to a spokesperson will "show how the city of Mountain Home has opened its arms to our military in the past, the present, and hopefully the future."

The Mountain Home Fire Department will be on hand to display its huge "Silver Wings" American flag.
