Letter carriers say thanks

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Dear editor:

I am a City Letter Carrier here in Mountain Home and have been our annual letter carrier food drive coordinator for the past three years. Every year we announce the drive in the paper the week before and than have a thank you put in the next week.

This year I lost my press release and so I asked if you could put an article in the paper anyway. You did and the thank you has been a little late in coming because I wanted to tell the people of Mountain Home how wonderful of a community I think we live in.

To me it is overwhelming with all the volunteers and businesses that helped us make this a very successful year. I was afraid that this year we would not get as much food because of the economy. This year we brought in over 7,200 pounds of food compared to last year at just over 4,200 pounds.

I would like to also thank the numerous volunteers who spent all day either at the post office sorting the food or driving all over town and rural areas collecting food. Several businesses helped also and everyone I talked to was amazed.

I would especially like to thank the people of Mountain Home for donating food this year when things were tight for everyone and lastly thank you to the rural route carriers for the extra effort made to collect the food.

This really is an amazing community and I am very proud to live and work here. I truly believe this is one of the best places to live and raise a family.

On behalf of all the city letter carriers and the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 4822, Thank you.

Barbara Russell
