Summer reading program nears

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

The Mountain Home Public Library is inviting children and teens to participate in this year's Summer Reading Program.

Children in families who live outside of the city's limits can get a special free library card valid from June 25 through July 31. Once issued the card can be used to check out juvenile and teen books for the summer program. Additionally, if any children and teens currently have library cards but owe fines that normally would exclude them from checking books out, the library will make a special allowance from June 25 through July 31. Arrangements to pay fines owed will need to be made after the Summer Reading Program ends. Talk to staff at the circulation desk or call the library at 587-4716 for additional information.

The staff has added new activities during each week of the summer reading program "and there will be something for everyone," a library spokesperson said. More details will appear next week on the library website at www.mhlibrary.org, where an easy one-page printout of the summer reading program schedule is available.

The library also now has the Tumble Book Library database available, an online collection of animated talking picture books that teach young children the joy of reading. The database may be accessed from a home computer. It features story books, Tumble readables, new books, puzzles and games. There are three languages to choose from: English, French, or Spanish.
