'Mannequins Around Town' to show history of the area

Historic displays such as this one will appear in local businesses.

The Mountain Home Historical Museum has launched a "Mannequins Around Town" project.

Mannequins Around Town features eight display's using historical pieces from the Mountain Home Historical Museum. The first displays were placed June 11 and will rotate weekly at various local businesses until Aug. 8.

"This is a heritage tour that promotes community businesses and is no cost to anyone," said Nancy Marshall, preservation director of Mountain Home Museum.

Each display ties in to Mountain Home's history and all displays are placed in community businesses to promote their name as well as Mountain Home's history. "The museum focuses on educational events that engage our community," said Marshall.

Mannequins Around Town is a new project for the Mountain Home Historical Museum. "I think it's going to be a success. If you don't try you won't know what works and what doesn't work," said Mayor Tom Rist.

Brochures showing each business featuring a display, and brochures for the Mountain Home Historical Museum will be part of the displays.

Businesses featuring the displays are: DeMeyer Furniture, Hampton Inn & Suites, Pioneer Mortgage and Insurance, Lane's Appliances, Idaho Independent Bank, The Phoenix Book Storybook Co., Hedda's Gifts and Brown Wrapper.

Six mannequins used in Mannequins Around Town were donated by Ken Swanson, director of the Idaho Military Historical Society at Gowen Field.

Each display is themed. The themes are: The History of the Mountain Home Air Force Base; A Tribute to Early Physicians (Dr. Evans); The Civilian Conservation Corps; Modern Lady of the 1900s; Tribute to School Teachers; World War II Navy Nurse (Claire Wetherell); Boy Scouts of America; the Mountain Home News and History of Mountain Home Air Force Base (Yancy Mailes).
