Letter to the Editor

County preparation lacking

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Dear editor:

While attending the county commissioners meeting this morning it dawned on me what one of the main problems this county might have.

The problem I see is our prosecuting attorney, Ms. Schindle. I do not know what her specialty is if any, but what I can tell you it isn't land.

From my P&Z experience I suspected this but until I witnessed it for myself, I wasn't 100 percent sure.

Commissioner Cruser was trying to get Ms .Schindle to research the issue regarding the rezone for AEHI.

Somehow she interpreted this into something completely different. It was my strong impression that she was using her position to influence or rather "control" the decision of the board.

I may be wrong but I strongly believe that a rezone can be set with conditions.

Per the article ran last week in the Mountain Home News, it is the general perception as well.

Ms. Schindle clearly stated that "no" it cannot be set with conditions and that it will be in effect for 4 years if granted.

She also led the board to believe that they could only put conditions on the rezone AFTER the decision to rezone is approved.

Panic was seen on Commissioners Shaw's face and Commissioners Rose's faces.

Commissioner Cruser I believe knows this wasn't true.

As commissioners they can put restrictions on the rezone, such as who the rezone is limited too, i.e. AEHI ONLY.

Normally I would have been totally against the board postponing this yet again.

But this time it has given me the opportunity to speak my mind.

I do have to add that I voted for Arlie Shaw and I will not make that mistake again.

Connie Cruser seemed to be the only one that had taken the time to research, read and put actual, logical thought into this decision.

The other two were speaking from what happened 30 and 40 years ago when the missile silos were put in and another example was some gas pipeline that was built in Wyoming or something and how the town went down the tubes when it was complete.

Come on, you guys, follow Commissioner Cruiser for once. She's the only one looking at this from a non-biased point of view, it seems.

I would also like to speak to the public. If you feel so inclined to make threatening phone calls to any one of these commissioners, grow up.
