Missing women found safe near Featherville

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Elmore County officials located Thursday the missing mother and daughter who had triggered a multi-county search in Idaho after they had been reported missing since May 31.

The missing pair walked into a Featherville restaurant this morning after spending two days stuck in snow north of Featherville.

Laura Carlson, 43, and her daughter, Stephanie, 23, had apparently decided to take the scenic route from Boise to their home in Twin Falls. The pair had attempted to drive from Idaho City to the Pine-Featherville area when they became stuck in the snow on Pfifer Creek Road approximately 9 miles north of Rocky Bar.

Laura Carlson, left, and her daughter, Stephanie, were found safe in the mountains above Mountain Home Thursday.

Storms had blanketed the area the past several days, so they "hunkered down" in their vehicle for two days.

They reported that four men on ATVs who came upon their stuck car Thursday morning helped them get the vehicle free and they were able to drive to Featherville later that morning.

After getting breakfast and making sure they had plenty of gas, the two were planning to continue on to Twin Falls to rejoin their family.
