C.J. boat ramp to be closed

Sunday, June 7, 2009

The North Park boat launch on the north shore of C.J. Strike Reservoir, adjacent to the dam, will be closed intermittently beginning June 8, because of construction activity being undertaken by Idaho Power Company.

The ramp is expected to reopen fully in four to six weeks. The ramp is commonly referred to as the "Air Force Ramp" due to its proximity to Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Alternate boat launches exist at nearby Black Sands and Cottonwood parks. The Black Sands ramp is about 20 minutes away from North Park and the Cottonwood Ramp is a 30-minute drive.

On busy days parking may be difficult at Cottonwood. Idaho Power has rebuilt two boat ramps over the past year at Loveridge and the Jack's Creek ramp on the Bruneau Pool also is open.

"At Idaho Power, we believe that Idaho is an outdoor paradise," said company spokesperson Stephanie McCurdy. "We also believe in being good stewards of the environment.

"Our day-use parks, overnight camping sites and boating facilities enhance some of the best outdoor gems our state has to offer.

"We will strive to keep as much of each facility open as possible, however, some closures will be necessary to complete construction and for safety."
