Landon named Mother of Year at LTCU tea

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Ruby Elizabeth Sanders Landon was named Mother of the Year at Elmore Medical Center's annual Mother's Day Tea on May 8.

Each year the Long Term Care Unit (LTCU) staff votes for the resident to be chosen as Mother of the Year. Landon was presented with the award surrounded by her granddaughters, great-granddaughters and friends.

Her granddaughter Pam Landon Krahn gave a life sketch and mentioned some of the accomplishments in her grandmother's life.

At the age of 100 years old, Landon has seen technology advance from horsepower to rocket power, manual typewriters to computers, telegraph and mail to the internet. She has been enjoying keeping up with her family by looking at pictures on Facebook. She raised three children and retired from the Phillips Petroleum Company at the Idaho Nuclear Lab. When she turned 100 years old her former boss called her to wish her a happy birthday.

She enjoys living at the LTCU and has a reputation for being the 'Bingo Queen' and has the Bingo prizes in her room to prove it.

The annual Mother's Day Tea, with over 100 attendees, was held in the Long Term Care Activity Room. A light lunch and refreshments were provided by Elmore Medical Center Auxiliary. All of the women who reside at Elmore Medical Center's LTCU have had children and were honored with Mother's Day corsages.

The room was decorated in a pastel color theme featuring an assortment of colorful mylar balloons.

Jeannie Hodgekiss, LTCU Activity Director, opened the program, welcoming guests and introducing the musical presentation provided by the Mountain Home High School Jazz Choir.

A presentation of flowers was given to Mrs. Manual Alaniz in recognition of the many volunteer services she has provided to the LTCU and for the handmade Mother's Day gifts she crafted for each of the mothers who attended the Mother's Day Tea.
