Coffee shop to open again at library

Friday, May 8, 2009

Common Ground Coffee and Plants is opening a second location inside the Mountain Home Public Library.

Owner Janis Hancock says she hopes to be open by mid May and said she was "inspired to open at the library," feeling it was a good fit and match. "There is so much history with the location of my first coffee shop and felt it would be nice to have a second location with history, too."

"I'm really wanting to get open before school gets out. I want to have after-school specials that will offer reasonable prices for the children so they can afford drinks and assorted treats. "

  • On the one hand, having a safe place where kids can go after school and have some refreshment is a good idea. And I love the way youth are encouraged to go to the library. But on the other hand I know I spill once in a while and know others do as well...what protects the library's books while customers of all ages are refreshing themselves and inadvertently make a mess?

  • I would rather our children be at the library than out on the streets looking for trouble. Why worry about getting a spill on a library book? Don't these same children check books out and take them home...where the books are subject to some pretty tough treatment?

If a book happens to get soiled...no big deal...they are replaceable and inanimate objects.

What I'm trying to say is...who gives a rip? Pun intended.
