The Mountain Home Lady Tigers split their games at the Idaho Sporting Goods 2009 Softball Tournament over the weekend, beating Bonneville but losing to Idaho Falls on Friday, and losing to Rocky Mountain but beating Baker, Ore., on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers scored nine runs in the sixth inning to pull away for a 13-0 six-inning win over Bonneville Friday morning at Settlers Field in Meridian.

"It was nice opening win over Bonneville," said Lady Tiger softball coach Chris Asbury. "We jumped out on them early, and stayed on them -- we got a little lackluster in the middle innings -- but finished them off there in the sixth and took care of business!"

Idaho Falls 7

Mtn. Home 6

Idaho Falls scored six runs after two were out in the third inning to pull away for a 7-6 win over Mountain Home Friday afternoon in Meridian.

Mountain Home pushed across four runs in the first inning and shot out to a 5-1 lead in the third, but Idaho Falls got to Mountain Home starter Blas Lord for six runs after two were out in the bottom of the third to go up 7-5. Mountain Home got one run in the fifth, and had runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not bring them home, Idaho Falls hanging on for the 7-6 win.

"Never like to lose, but it teaches us something -- stay focused the whole game, better approach at the plate," said Coach Asbury.

"We jumped up on them early and then gave them six runs in an inning -- maybe two earned runs all game -- it was definitely a game we handed to them. It should have been a 'W', but the girls battled back and I'm proud of that."

Nickayla Skinner and Kelsie Hopkins both had two hits. Skinner had a three-run home run and a double, Hopkins had a triple and a double, Megan Kelly and Lindsey Sessions both had RBI singles, Arlene Futch had a triple and Jennica Quintal had a single.
