WECRD seeks partnership with YMCA

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

The Western Elmore County Recreation District is shifting gears to focus its efforts on developing a possible partnership with the Treasure Valley YMCA.

The district had shown a brief period of interest in developing such a partnership in the early years of its existence, but that effort did not pan out at the time.

More recently, its focus has been on developing a community center of its own. Following last fall's elections, during which WECRD Director Mollie Marsh had indicated the district was less than a year away from being able to begin construction of the center, the district had put together a citizen's committee to help it come up with a final design for the community center.

Neither Marsh nor new director Jana Borgholthaus responded to requests for interviews by the Mountain Home News regarding the efforts to obtain a partnership with the YMCA.

But according to a statement by Borgholthause on the WECRD website: "The WECRD has made progress over the past years, although at first glance it may look like we are 'starting over,' it is really just a step back to regroup and take another look at the bigger picture.

"Thursday, March 18, marked a pivotal day for the WECRD as we took the first step in moving forward with the YMCA," she wrote.

Wow, I thought the board wanted to communicate better with the public. They sure missed a perfect chance with this article.

  • Gee, the Y sure understands things and seems to have a real handle on how the community feels about things. So, why is the WECRD Board still so clueless? Interesting. Good article MHN and thanks for contacting the Y for their side of the story on this. It was a telling interview to say the least. I guess the "naysayers" were not so full of it afterall. Imagine that.

  • Pathetic, you fail to communicate with us all the while crying about not having enough support.

And now your trying to latch on the back of the YMCA because you can't figure it out on your own.

  • I hope we don't have to wait a year...but if it will bring good results, I look forward to their decision.
