Tennis team drops a pair

The Mountain Home Tiger tennis team lost to Columbia and Skyview last week in conference tennis.

The Tigers faced the Columbia Wildcats on the tennis courts at Columbia on March 16, and came up short to the Wildcats, 5-2, in the boys match, and 7-0 in the girls match.

Keth Galloway and Chris Austin took the boys #1 doubles match 6-2, 7-6 (TB 7-2).

Ross Pataro picked up the other win for the boys, winning the #2 singles match 2-6, 7-6 (TB 7-2), 6-4.

"This was Ross' first three-setter match, and to pull out a win the first time is a great achievement," said Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "When he boarded the bus we all gave him a well deserved applause!"

Chris Oswald lost the #1 boys singles match 3-6, 2-6, and Frankie Wenner lost at #3, 2-6, 1-6. Drew Borgholthaus and Justin Rogow stepped up from the JV team to play the #2 boys doubles, and lost 0-6, 1-6.

Tomas Garza and Ali Draper lost 0-6, 1-6, in #1 mixed doubles, and Drew Guyer and Danielle Gorman lost the #2 mixed doubles match 6-7 (TB 4-7), 2-6.

Brittany Ryan lost the #1 girls singles match, 2-6, 4-6, Natalie Lasher lost the #2 singles, and Danielle Lord lost the #3 match 0-6, 1-6.

Amy Hymer and Chandler Cain lost the #1 girls doubles match 2-6, 4-6, and Bethany Johns and Jennifer Loomis lost the #2 doubles match, 1-6, 0-6.

"The girls team did not win any matches, but they were all very competitive," said coach House.

The Tigers hosted Skyview on base last Thursday afternoon, but were blanked by the Hawks in both the boys and girls matches.

Andrew Martin lost the boys #1 singles match to a ranked Idaho junior player, 0-6, 0-6. Chris Oswald lost the #2 singles in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 1-6, and Bryan Wheeler lost at #3, 1-6, 2-6.

In boys doubles, Keth Galloway and Greg Walsh dropped a tough 6-7 (TB 4-7), 3-6 #1 doubles match, and Collin Smith and Jarod Mott lost the #2 match 0-6, 1-6.

Chris Austin and Danielle Gorman lost the #1 mixed doubles match 1-6, 0-6, and Drew Guyer and Allyanna Wintermote lost the #2 mixed doubles match 3-6, 2-6.

In girls singles, Brittany Ryan lost the #1 match 2-6, 0-6, Bethany Johns lost at # 2, 0-6, 1-6, and Danielle Lord lost the #3 singles, 0-6, 0-6.

Amy Hymer and Chandler Cain battled tough in the #1 girls doubles, losing 2-6, 3-6, and Bridget Sinerius and Danielle Stratton lost at #2, 0-6, 1-6.

"The weather was great for tennis, and the kids were pumped, and they gave it their all against a tough Skyview team," said Coach House.

The Tigers are off for Spring Break this week, returning to action March 30 for a non-conference match against Jerome at the airbase courts. They travel to Bishop Kelly on March 31 for a conference match, and close out the week on April 2 at the base courts against Emmett.
