The Purple Potty

There is an interesting visitor appearing on the lawns of Mountain Home residents in the middle of night, and it's raising a few eyebrows.

A Purple toilet is being placed in front yards of homes or businesses as a fundraiser for the 2009 Relay For Life.

A $10 donation to the American Cancer Society will get the purple pot removed from your yard. Twenty dollars will have it removed and then sent to a destination chosen by the donor. For $30, it is possible to pre-purchase a "Purple Potty Protection Plan" so the lovely lavender loo never lands on your lawn. Go to ElmoreRelay@gmail.com for more information about the insurance.

The travelling toilet is the work of Michelle Yalch and Marcella Trueba, co-chairs of this years Relay For Life of Elmore County.

"My neighbor remodeled her bathroom and didn't know what to do with her old toilet. We jumped at the chance to take it off her hands. I took it to Cox Auto Body and they did an amazing job getting the toilet ready for its journey," Yalch said.

Teams can sign up to use the toilet for two weeks at time to raise funds for Relay For Life. If someone happens to decide they want to keep the purple potty, it can be purchased for $1,000.

This year, Relay for Life is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is the largest non-profit fundraiser in the world. Funds raised through Relay are used by the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research and provide services for individuals undergoing treatments.

Elmore County's Relay For Life event will be held June 19-20 at Eastside Park in Mountain Home. A Survivors Reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by Opening Ceremonies, during which local cancer survivors make the first lap of the event.

The Luminaria Ceremony will be held at 11 p.m. and the Fight Back Ceremony will conclude the 12 hour Relay at 7 a.m.

Anyone interested in more information is being encouraged to visit www.HopeForCureNow.com. Cancer survivors interested in being honored during the Survivors Reception should contact Cece Bracy at 587-9510 or Ruby Closson at 599-2830.
