NTSB officials unsure why plane fell apart

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Federal aviation officials say they are still trying to determine the cause of a plane crash last month that killed an inexperienced Utah pilot. Tom Little, an investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, says it may be months before anyone knows why the plane broke apart in mid-air. The plane crashed Feb. 15 in the desert in Elmore County, killing the only person on board, student pilot Craig Jewett. Little says the plane has been sent to a metallurgy lab to help determine what caused it to come apart during flight.
