Club wrestling season underway

The Mountain Man Wrestling Club got its season underway this past weekend in Homedale.

Taking just seven kids to the tournament was a little disappointing, the coaches said, "but the wrestlers who went wrestled very strong matches," according to Kevin Staebler, director and a coach of the club.

The group was unable to crown a champion, but Bantam class Tanner Keener took home silver, and Schoolboy class Bobby Dominguez and Tanner Sessions also brought home silver medals.

Finishing with third-place honors were Bantam class Trevor Dockstader and Schoolboy class Charlie Shoemaker.

Finishing fourth in a tough weight class was Schoolboy Jacob Wendall.

In the Novice class Chance Hense fell short of a top six place by one match.

The club will be taking the next weekend off from Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, but a couple of the members will travel to Pocatello for the Ultimate Challenge Folkstyle Tournament, a highly competitive tournament attracting wrestlers from all over the country.

The club will resume regular mat action the following weekend when it travels to Ontario, Ore., for the Mat Rat Invitational.
