Tiger cheerleaders win district, advance to state

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

The Mountain Home Tigers Varsity Cheer Squad took top honors this past Saturday at Rocky Mountain High School as they competed in the Treasure Valley District Cheer Competition.

This is the first time in three years for Mountain Home to place in district and advance to the state championships, which will be held March 21 at the Idaho Center in Nampa.

Head Coach Lucky Allison was overcome with emotion when her girls took first place in both Sideline Cheer and Competition Routine.

"We had our ups and downs with physical and health problems," she said, "but at the end they all pulled together as one and showed they were a true varsity team. I'm proud of each one of the girls.

"Now it's time for us to bring home the state banner."

Assistant coaches are Amber Lindsay and Sean Smith.

Cheerleaders are:  Summer Allison (junior-co-captain); Chasity Custer (junior-co-captain); Hillary Dicks (junior); Natalie Lasher (junior); Jenny Lewis (junior); Amanda Raines (junior); Forrestt Zimmerman (junior); Natalie Campbell (sophomore); Susie Gomez (sophomore); Tori Morris (sophomore); JC Richelieu (sophomore); Kayle Wheeler (sophomore); Melody Lettkeman (sophomore).

    GREAT JOB CHEERLEADERS!!!

I hope everyone appreciates the hard work these girls do! Cheerleading should be categorized as a sport, not just an extra-curricular activity. My daughter was a MH Cheeleader for 5 years, (started in Jr. high) and I can't tell you the amount of time and energy they put in to perform each week, not to mention the injuries!!

    YOU GO GIRLS!!

    Great Job cheerleaders!

I only wish that we would have seen you at the Varsity Boys 2nd basketball game at State. I think the cheerleaders dropped the ball on this one.

Mountain Home doesn't get the opportunity to go to State very often and you should have been there to represent the school and our town!! The squad could have been a limited one if people had other commitments, but you still SHOULD have been there to cheer for those boys.

    Highschool Mom,

The cheerleaders, yes it would have been nice for them to be at the 2nd game. They themselves were getting ready for thier competition as well. We as parents and fans of the basketball team understood wht they needed to do. They did practice hard and they did what needed to be done. The end result is they to are going to state. It taked alot of practice for them and they as well need to be carefull so there is no injuries. So in the defense of the cheerleaders we all understood after it was brought to the attention of some! Again Great showing for Mtn. Home from all of the basketball teams the wrestlers the football team and cheerleaders! Lets give all of the student athletes a round of applause and cheer them on. Now it is time for the track and baseball teams to finish off the year!!!
