High school drama to present musical based on Dr. Seuss

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Mountain Home High School will present "Seussical, Jr." March 13 at 7 p.m. and two shows on March 14 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the MHHS gym.

Tickets, which can be purchased at the door, are $4 for students and $6 for adults.

It is the first musical produced at the high school in ten years. Casting was open to the entire school and the production is a combined effort between the choir and drama departments.

Musical direction is by Blake Olmstead, choreography by Nicki Thompson and direction by Taunya Page.

The musical takes place on "the 15th of May in the Jungle of Nool, in the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool." The Cat in the Hat narrates the musical journey following Horton the Elephant on his endeavors protecting the Whos from the Sour Kangaroo and the Wickersham brothers. Meanwhile, Mayzie La Bird abandons her egg, which Horton vows to look after, and Gertrude McFuzz with the one feather tail attempts to find a friend in a world where she goes unnoticed.

"Dr. Seuss's characters are alive on stage in a fantasy world filled with adventure and suspense," Page said.
