JV girls lose two close games

It was a tough week for the Mountain Home Lady Tigers JV girls basketball team, who dropped close games to Columbia and Skyview.

Mountain Home had a poor night putting the ball in the hoop at Columbia last Thursday, losing to the Lady Wildcats 31-23 in JV girls basketball.

Mountain Home grabbed an early lead, but trailed 6-10 after a quarter.

Columbia extended their lead to 17-8 before the Lady Tigers battled back to make it 17-13, Columbia, at the half.

Mountain Home took a 19-17 lead before Columbia finally scored in the third quarter, but the Lady Wildcats battled back to take the lead, 22-19, heading into the fourth.

Mountain Home managed to get within two, 25-23, with 1:01 left, but Columbia cashed in from the free-throw line down the stretch, scoring six straight free throws to win 31-23.

Arlene Futch led Mountain Home in scoring with nine points. Keesha Janis added six, Jessica Liercke five, Jennica Quintal two, and Fatima Guillen one.

Mountain Home connected on only 41 percent of their free throws (9/22) for the ball game.

Skyview 31

Skyview hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to come from behind and beat the Lady Tigers 31-30 Saturday afternoon in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

It was a tough loss for Mountain Home, which had just regained the lead in the final minute on a free throw by Jennica Quintal, and then increased their lead to two, 30-28, on a free throw by Jessica Liercke with 48 seconds left.

Skyview finally hit a trey -- their first of the game -- when Sam Field drained one behind a screen out front with 11 seconds left.

Mountain Home called a time out with seven seconds left but could not get the ball into the forecourt before the buzzer went off.

Keesha Janis led Mountain Home in scoring with 12 points, Jessica Liercke added seven, Arlene Futch scored six, Jennica Quintal three and Lindsay Sessions two.

Mountain Home made just six of 13 (46 percent) free throws in the ballgame, which had 10 lead changes and five ties.
