Sophomore boys split games

The Mountain Home Tigers sophomores bounced back from a Bishop Kelly loss to edge Emmett last week in conference boys basketball games.

The Bishop Kelly Knights cashed in at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to keep the Mountain Home Tigers at bay in a 58-46 sophomore boys basketball conference win at Mountain Home last Tuesday.

After an early lead, the Tigers fell behind and trailed 16-8 after a quarter.

They fell 13 points behind in the second quarter, but battled back to within eight, 29-21, at halftime. It was 42-39, Bishop Kelly, after three.

The Tigers managed to battle back within five points on a couple occasions in the fourth quarter, but Bishop Kelly cashed in from the free-throw line, hitting 12 of 14 free throws in the final quarter to hold off the Tigers 58-46.

Anthony Barbosa and Tyler Wright led Mountain Home in scoring. Barbosa had 11 points, Wright added 10, Colton Zamora and Mert Baysal both netted eight points, Brent Sexauer and J.T. Cristobal each had four and Justin Connolly had one point.

The Tigers held off Emmett Friday night at Emmett for a 45-39 conference road win.

Mountain Home shot out to a 15-6 first quarter lead and led 27-16 at the half.

The Tigers stretched their lead to 15 points midway through the third quarter before a 12-0 run by Emmett cut the margin to three. Mountain Home led 35-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Emmett managed to tie the game at 35-35, with 4:58 left but the Tigers went 6/6 from the free-throw line down the stretch to win 45-39.

Tyler Wright led the Tigers with 13 points, Brent Sexauer added 10, Mert Baysal scored eight, J.T. Cristobal and Colton Zamora both had six and Anthony Barbosa scored two points.
