Columbia 31

Kelsey Egusquiza scored with six seconds left as the Mountain Home Lady Tigers battled back in the fourth quarter to edge Columbia 32-31 in conference sophomore girls basketball at Columbia last Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers managed a 4-4 tie with Columbia after a quarter, mainly due to over a dozen missed shots by the Lady Wildcats, many of them lay-ins. Mountain Home got their offense going in the second quarter behind the rebounding of Courtney Broughton to go out to a 14-8 halftime advantage.

Columbia's last two points in the second quarter was the beginning of a 17-0 run for the Lady Wildcats, as they shot out to a 23-14 lead before JaDene Palmer scored in the final 30 seconds of the quarter. Columbia led 24-16 heading into the fourth quarter.

Mountain Home battled back in the final quarter and went ahead briefly, 27-26, on two free throws by Kelsey Egusquiza with 3:37 left.

Columbia hit three of four free throws over the next two minutes to go up 29-27, but Jaclyn Lasuen hit a free throw and a basket to put Mountain Home back in the lead, 30-29, with 48 seconds left.

Two more free throws by Columbia put the Lady Wildcats up 31-30 with 42 seconds left.

Kelly Robins went to the free-throw line with eight seconds left to shoot two, and missed them both. The rebound on the second one ended up in Kelsey Egusquiza's hands and she shot and made it with six seconds left.

Columbia was unable to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded, the Lady Tigers prevailing 32-31.

Courtney Christiansen led the Lady Tigers with 10 points. Kelsey Egusquiza added six, Courtney Broughton and JaDene Palmer both scored four, Jaclyn Lasuen three and Kelly Robins two.
