JV Lady Tigers beat Kuna, lose to Nampa

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers JV came away with a split of their conference girls basketball games last week, losing at Nampa but winning at home against Kuna.

A bad third quarter did the Lady Tigers in at Nampa last Tuesday, as they lost 29-18 in conference girls basketball action.

Neither team could muster much offense in the first quarter, which ended with the score tied 2-2. The Lady Tigers were down 10-7 at the half, but a 13-2 scoring edge for Nampa in the third quarter proved to be the difference, as Nampa increased their lead to 23-9 heading into the fourth.

Mountain Home doubled its scoring output in the fourth quarter, but fell short, 29-18.

Jessica Liercke led Mountain Home in scoring with five points, Arlene Futch added three, Amanda Osborn, Jennica Quintal, Fatima Guillen, Lindsay Sessions and Keesha Janis each scored two points.

Kuna 43

Jessica Liercke scored with 14 seconds left to lead the Lady Tigers to a 45-43 win over Kuna Friday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

The first quarter went back and fourth, with the score tied at 10-10 after a quarter. Mountain Home regained the lead in the second quarter, and, except for an 18-18 tie, led most of the quarter. They were up 24-22 at the half.

A 9-0 run by Kuna to start the third quarter put the Lady Kavemen up 31-26 with 4:31 left in the quarter. An 8-1 run by Mountain Home gave them the lead back and they led 34-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

Keesha Janis hit two free throws to put the Lady Tigers up, 38-33, with 7:02 left in the ball game. Mountain Home would then hit just one of 10 free throws the rest of the way, as Kuna came back to tie the game at 43-43 with 30 seconds left.

Jessica Liercke then came down and scored with 14 seconds left to give Mountain Home a 45-43 lead. Kuna then came down and tried for the win, but their three-pointer was off and the Lady Tigers prevailed 45-43.

Jessica Liercke led Mountain Home in scoring with 13 points. Arlene Fuch and Keesha Janis both added 10. Amanda Osborn netted six points, Lindsay Sessions five and Jennica Quintal one.
