Elks Lodge #2276 names local Hoop Shoot champions

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Mountain Home Elks Lodge #2276 held its annual Hoop Shoot Competition Jan. 17.

"We had some new and repeat faces this year of the youth that won in their individual school competitions" said Hoop Shoot Chairman Larry Fincher.

Schools represented this year were North Elementary, Bruneau Elementary, East Elementary, West Elementary, Hacker Middle School, Grand View and Rimrock.

"Without the support of the local PE teachers this program would not have the turnout it does" said Fincher.

"I would like to give special thanks to the teachers that support our program and give the extra effort to organize the school level events. This program relies on each school having their own shoot-off so that they may send one boy and girl from each age group forward to the local Elks Shoot-off."

This year there were approximately 900 children involved from Mountain Home, Grand View and Bruneau schools.

The 21 youth below represent those winners that competed at the local level this past weekend. They all have a chance to advance through district, state, regional and national competitions, starting at the local level.

The first-place winners from each age group include three boys and three girls who will advance to Caldwell on Jan. 24 for the district competition.
