JV Tigers beat Nampa, Kuna

The Mountain Home Tigers junior varsity boys basketball team picked up a couple conference wins last week, beating Nampa and Kuna.

The Tigers evened their conference record at 1-1 with a 58-31 rout of the Nampa Bulldogs last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

An 8-0 run to start the game helped the JV Tigers to a 22-10 first-quarter lead.

They held Nampa to just four points in the second quarter to increase their lead to 36-14 at halftime. They led 42-24 heading into the fourth.

Brock Morris had a season-high 19 points to lead the Tigers. Anthony Castillo added 15, Aaron Hobbs, Tom Hennessey and David Bitrick each scored six points, and Drew Hopkins, Cody Ramos and Damian Soliz all scored two points.

Kuna 47

The Tigers battled came from behind to down Kuna Friday night, 53-47 in conference action at Kuna.

Mountain Home battled back from a seven-point deficit midway through the first quarter to come within two, 12-10, after a quarter.

After Cody Ramos scored to tie the game at 12-12, Kuna regained the lead. Anthony Castillo's three tied the game at 20-20 and David Bitrick's basket gave the Tigers the lead, 22-20, with 1:51 left in the half. But Kuna scored the final five points in the quarter to regain the lead, 25-22, at halftime.

The third quarter went back and fourth, with eight lead-changes and five ties before Cody Ramos scored with 23 seconds left in the quarter to put the Tigers up 39-37 after three.

Mountain Home pulled away in the fourth quarter. Tom Hennessey's trey with 1:43 left gave the Tigers a 51-44 lead. Hennessey hit a couple free throws in the closing seconds to make it a 53-47 final.

Anthony Castillo led a balanced scoring attack for the Tigers with 10 points, Aaron Hobbs added nine, Cody Ramos and Brock Morris both scored eight, Tom Hennessey and David Bitrick each scored seven, Drew Hopkins had three and Damian Soliz one.

The win improved the Tigers to 2-1 in conference play and 3-5 on the season.
