Sophomore boys split games

The Mountain Home Tigers sophomore basketball team came up short at Kuna Friday night, so it had to settle for a split in the week's games.

The Mountain Home Tigers scored early and often on their way to a 58-27 boys basketball conference win over Nampa last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led 25-5 after a quarter. They stretched their lead to 43-12 at the half, and led 53-19 after three.

Colton Zamora led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points, Brent Sexauer added 10, J.T. Cristobal netted nine, James Simon seven, Justin Connolly and Mert Baysal both scored six, Dakota Ramos had four, Anthony Barbosa three and Enrigue Verela two.

The Tigers had their win streak snapped at two, suffering a tough 30-28 loss at Kuna Friday night.

Mountain Home scored the first basket of the ball game, but didn't score again until the last minute of the quarter and trailed 10-4 after a quarter. It was 16-11, Kuna, at the half.

Mountain Home took the lead, 21-20, on a basket by J.T. Cristobal with 4:10 left in the third quarter, but the Kavemen regained the lead and led 24-21 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers fell behind, 28-22, in the early going of the fourth quarter, but battled back to tie the game at 28-28 on Colton Zamora's basket with 2:17 left in the ball game.

Both teams blew several opportunities to take the lead until Kuna scored with 38 seconds left. Mountain Home again had their chances to tie or go ahead, but came up short, 30-28.

J.T. Cristobal and James Simon led the tigers in scoring with six points each, Ricky Castillo netted five, Brent Sexauer and Colton Zamora both added four, Anthony Barbosa scored two, and Justin Connolly had one point.

The loss dropped the sophomore Tigers to 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
