John Keith McCaughan, the suspect in the Dec. l8 robbery of Idaho Independent Bank, has been arrested in Arkansas.

John Keith McCaughan, 44, the suspect in the Dec. 8 robbery of Idaho Independent Bank in Mountain Home, has been arrested in Clinton, Ark.

McCaughan was arrested last week following a traffic stop for a broken headlight by the Arkansas State Police. He was driving a pick-up truck that may have been the vehicle with which he is believed to have left the Mountain Home area following his alleged early morning robbery of the bank here.

He may also be a suspect in a Dec. 22 bank robbery in Arkansas.

He and another passenger in the pickup initially were taken into custody for possible illegal possession of prescription drugs. The passenger is not considered an accomplice in the robbery in Mountain Home.

McCaughan was being held in Little Rock, Ark. Local authorities said the FBI will probably take over the case and the follow-up prosecution. Considering his possible involvement in other suspected cases, where he will be prosecuted is not known at this time.

His first name originally had been listed as James in the initial identification by the FBI. No hometown or state have been identified for the suspect.
