Ambulance boss hired

Elmore Medical Center has hired G. Dale Curran, Jr., to serve as the new Elmore Ambulance Service manager.

Curran comes to the position with 23 years of EMS experience. He has worked as a paramedic, supervisor and trainer both in rural and metropolitan communities.

Curran received his initial EMT-B and EMT-1 training in 1985 while stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base. He completed advanced training to EMT-P in Oregon and passed the National Paramedic Certification Exam in the early '90s. Curran owned and operated Hallmark Care Homes, Inc., in Tigard, Ore., and worked as a lead paramedic in Portland, Ore., prior to moving back to Mountain Home in 2007.

"We all share a vision of bringing together a strong EMS system that provides the quality services our communities deserve and expect," Curran said, discussing his initial goals for the ambulance service. "My immediate focus is on hiring a strong crew of EMS professionals that have integrity and pride and want to be part of a successful team."

The staffing needs for Elmore Ambulance Service require hiring 20-25 people when the hospital takes over the ambulance service operations for the county on April 1, 2009.

Two ambulance crews are needed to staff the primary ambulances stationed in Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry on a 24/7 basis. Additional crews are needed for back-up and on-call hours. The ambulance crew's duties will include 911 responses, interfacility patient transfers and stand-by services at community events.

Curran is currently in the process of accepting applications and scheduling interviews for new staff.

All ambulance service staff will be Elmore Medical Center employees, receiving competitive salaries and benefits. Job descriptions and employment applications are available on the hospital website at www.elmoremedicalcenter.org. Training for new staff members must be completed prior to March 30, 2009.

In addition to training paid staff, Curran will be responsible for developing an on-going volunteer training program designed to enhance local EMS volunteer resources.

Volunteers are needed in many of the smaller communities in the county. A recent grant award will provide funding needed to establish the basis for a sustainable, subsidized training program.
