Students rake leaves for seniors

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

On a cold Saturday morning, 65 high school and junior high students gathered together at MHJHS with rakes and bags in hand in preparation for the 13th Annual Community Leaf Raking Project.

The event served as a community project in which students raked leaves for area senior citizens and handicapped residents.

Throughout the day, each of the four buses donated by First Student and Cheryl Isaacs made stops at the assigned homes and when the day was over, the students had raked lawns for 32 Mountain Home residents.

"This is great, I don't know what I would have done if they weren't here," said resident Barbara Ringgold.

Days after the event, MHHS Principal Jeff Johnson spoke on the event's success.

"It was the best it's ever been, a nice day with all the kids showing up and it ran very smoothly. It was great for the kids to give back to a community that has been very supportive to MHHS."

Johnson and MHHS thanked Isaacs and First Student for donating the buses.

"We really appreciated the donation, which was pretty critical in keeping this event on schedule."

  • Wonderful story. Breath of fresh air. This gives me hope in this country's future. What a terrific bunch of young people. I, for one, am very proud.
