UV football finishes season with two wins, 6-3

The Mountain Home Tigers junior varsity football team closed out the season with wins over Emmett and Kuna.

The Mountain Home Tigers JV squad put up 14 points in the first quarter on their way to a 21-0 win over the Emmett Huskies JV on Oct. 23 at Tiger Field in Mountain Home.

Anthony Castillo hooked up with Jordan Warila on a 34-yard touchdown pass early in the quarter. Later in the quarter Castillo connected with Drew Hopkins on a 47-yard scoring strike as the Tigers went up 14-0.

The Tigers final score also came through the air, as Anthony Castillo hit Deion Brown on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Castillo added the PAT to make it 21-0, a lead that stood up the rest of the game.

Curtis Jackson led the Tigers ground game with 83 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Colton Zamora had 80 yards on 26 carries, Anthony Castillo rushed three times for 16 yards, Enrique Varela had two rushes for seven yards, Julio Cantu carried once for four yards, and Cody Staebler had two carries minus three yards.

Anthony Castillo completed five of eight passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Hopkins had two catches for 55 yards and a score, Jordan Warila had one catch for 34 yards and a score, and Deion Brown caught two passes for 32 yards and a score.

Defensively, Drew Hopkins led the Tigers in tackles, getting in on six. Joe Russell and Curtis Jackson both had five tackles, Julio Cantu and Deion Brown both had four tackles, Cantu had three sacks.

Kuna 6

The Tigers closed out their JV football season with a 27-6 win at Kuna on Oct. 29.

Neither team was able to do much offensively in the first half, with the Tigers getting on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Enrique Varela scored from a yard out.

The Tigers put 21 points on the board in the fourth quarter. Jake Hennessey hit Cody Staebler on a 42-yard pass play for a score. Colton Zamora rambled 72 yards for a score, and the final score of the night came on a 15-yard pass from Jake Hennessey to Colton Zamora.

Colton Zamora led the Tigers rushing game with 115 yards on 15 carries. Juan Silva rushed the ball eight times for 51 yards, Enrique Varela had three carries for 12 yards, Anthony Castillo had one carry for nine yards, Curtis Jackson had nine rushes for 10 yards, and Julio Cantu had one for three yards.

Jake Hennessey completed six of eight passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns and Anthony Castillo was two for six for 35 yards. Cody Staebler caught two passes for 58 yards and a touchdown, JT Cristobal had two catches for 35 yards, Colton Zamora had two catches for 16 yards and a score and Anthony Castillo caught one pass for 15 yards.

Julio Cantu led the Tigers with seven tackles, including a quarterback sack.

Jonathon Casper and Joe Russell both got in on six tackles, Russell caused a fumble and recovered a fumble, Cody Ramos and Drew Hopkins both had five tackles, Ramos had an interception.

The JV Tiger finished the season 6-3 overall.
