Vote out Shaw and Rose

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Dear editor and citizens of Elmore County:

Please vote out Arlie Shaw and Larry Rose as county commissioners for their decision to overturn the Elmore County Planning and Zoning decision to deny Clear Springs Ranch Subdivision a conditional use permit to build about 200 homes on 200 acres with septic tanks.

Planning and zoning go it right by denying the application. I believe, and most of the residents that live on Beaman, North 18th and Canyon Creek believe, the county commissioners ignored citizens' concerns and are allowing the subdivision. This is not reasonable.

Yes, legally it appeared the developer had his I's dotted and T's crossed on most items, however it does not meet the good old common sense rule. One of the main reasons the planning and zoning commission rejected the developers proposal was because it does not fit harmoniously with the current area that is a county ordinance.

I invite any of you to drive down NW Beaman next to Hiddleston Drilling and tell me if you think a 200-house subdivision fits in harmoniously with the current area. I don't see anything like that in this area. This is not reasonable.

It is stupid to develop 200 homes on 200 acres with septic tanks. Even though the septic systems meet current standards with current regulations, this is nuts. Here is why:

What if there is seepage into the aquifer and it contaminates our water supply with sewage? Who pays?

With the additional use of two new community wells to supply the subdivision with water from the aquifer, who is going to pay for local residents to have their wells redrilled when they go dry from the new community wells?

It won't be the developer, the commissioners, or the county, it will be the existing homeowners. You may say "Ray, why do I care?" You may be next, that's why.

So, what can we do? Vote them out.

Vote for Janet Langfitt to get rid of Arlie Shaw.

Vote for Doug King (write in candidate) to get rid of Larry Rose.

If the new commissioners do not represent us well, we'll vote them out next time.

We the people of Elmore County have the power, not the politicians. Let's remind the current commissioners who they are supposed to be representing.

So to recap, please vote Larry Rose and Arlie Shaw out of office. If we cannot trust the county commissioners' decision on Clear Springs Ranch, can you trust their judgment on a Proposed Nuclear Power Plant?
