WECRD's proposed center is needed

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Dear editor:

Living in Mountain Home during our youth, it has been difficult to find activities to keep us busy.

Many of the fun activities lead to causing more trouble than fun. We watched our friends and peers start obnoxious habits at a young age, or become couch potatoes, or just hang out with nothing to do.

We need a place for youth to go as well as adults, where they can have the opportunity to have fun in a healthy environment, get some exercise, have somewhere to go after school and during the summer.

We are happy that there are plans to break ground for a new rec center in 2009. That means no more having to go to Boise to have fun. We will have it right here in our own community.

The original town pool is no longer big enough for our community and anyway it is only open for two months during the year. Besides the youth needing a pool year-round, adults and senior citizens need it for exercise and therapy.

Having an indoor pool would just be the beginning of the possibilities offered if we have a new rec center.

We wish the people in our community would open their eyes to what our town is missing. This would also be a better, safer place for youth selling popcorn, candy, etc. for fundraising rather than having to go our door-to-door which adults tell them not to do.

A new rec center would really help this community.

We want to thank Mollie Marsh and let her know that we support her on everything she is working toward -- for all her hard work and all the sacrifices she has made for our community. We will be there, Mollie, to help in any way we can.
