MHHS V-ball can't finish games

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers showed some strength at times, but still lost to the Lady Knights from Bishop Kelly in three straight games in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home on Sept. 30.

Mountain Home trailed all the way in the first game, but stayed close. Their biggest deficit was nine points, 22-13, before they battled back to within four, 20-24.

Bishop Kelly scored the last point to win the first game 25-20.

In the second game, there were five ties and seven lead changes.

Mountain Home led, 21-18, but were outscored 7-1 down the stretch to lose game two 22-25.

Mountain Home led a good share of the early part of the third game, but, up, 14-10, the Lady Tigers couldn't buy a point, Bishop Kelly going on a 10-0 run to take the lead, 20-14. From there, they traded points, Bishop Kelly winning game three 25-19, and the match in three straight.

Mountain Home Lady Tiger volleyball coach Rachele Asbury indicated her girls need to learn how to finish games.

"It is about finishing. We gave them a lot of points that they didn't earn -- missed serves, hitting them out, hitting them in the net, and not being where we're supposed to be on defense -- so until we can do that, they're going to keep pounding away at us."

Kelsie Hopkins was 14/15 serving, with nine service points, and an ace. Blas Lord was 11/13 serving, with eight service points, three aces and four kills. Samantha Laughlin was 12/12 serving, had three points, an ace, nine kills and five digs.

Nickayla Skinner was 8/9 serving, had two points, two aces, eight assists, two kills and and a dig. Charde Huntington was 8/10 serving, had four points, two aces, six kills and three blocks. Sarah Cantrell was 2/3 serving, had a kill and a dig. Katrina Hodgerson was 2/3 serving, Brittany Ryan had three digs, Jasmyn Jewett, two kills, and Jennie Jewell was 1/1 serving.

The Lady Tigers went to Mountain View High School for an invitational volleyball tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Tigers, now 2-9 in conference play, have just one match this week as they travel to Columbia Thursday night to face the Lady Wildcats. They play at Skyview on Oct. 14, and close out their regular season schedule with Senior Night on Oct. 16 against Middleton in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

The District III 4A Volleyball Tournament is Oct. 20-23 at Kuna.
