Cross-country team continues to improve

The Mountain Home Tigers came through with some good times at the prestigious Bob Firman Invitational meet at Eagle island State park Saturday.

Alycia Crandall had her best time of the season, running 20:54, good enough for 15th in the varsity girls division, where the Mountain Home girls finished 19th.

Haley Schaefer came in 28th, running a 21:23. Jessi Cameron ran a 25:05. Ashley Sasaki, running in her first varsity competition, set a new personal best, breaking the 26-minute mark with a 25:55, and Jennica Quintal ran a 26:16.

In the boys varsity competition, Garret Wood led Mountain Home with a new PR of 19:35. He finished 156th out of 237 runners. Gavin Cline's 19:50 was a new PR.

Dylan Johnson ran a 19:54.

Chris Austin moved up from the JV to run varsity and set a new PR with a 20:59, and Andrew Martin ran a 21:46.

In the freshmen girls race, Kacee Cameron finished eighth out of 66 runners, her time of 23:15 a new PR by more than a minute. Ashley Mayberry came in 18th, her time of 23:16, also a PR. McKenzie Dorr ran a 26:39, and Haley Reynolds, in her first race of the season, ran a 30:49.

In the freshman boys race, where the Tigers were 34th, Robby Pack led the Tigers, finishing 15th, his time of 19:15 a new PR. Joe Gutierrez, seeing his first action since the opening season meet at Bishop Kelly, ran a 19:15, good for 18th.

Colby Hall had a new PR with his 19:521, which placed him 28th. Taylor Croft's 20:20 was a new PR, as was Aaron Menheart's 24:23, and Nick McClaine's 26:32.

In the JV girls race, Tiana Svetkovich ran a 25:17, and Stephen Bush set a new PR with his 21:09 in the JV boys race.

Mountain Home also took their junior high cross country runners, but the junior high races were canceled due to lightning.

The Tigers travel to Salmon onFriday for a cross country meet. Coach Root looks forward to the meet.

"There will be a couple 5A schools, a couple 4A schools there. We'll see how we pair up with some of the other schools from southeastern Idaho. There'll also be a couple schools from Wyoming there. It's good to get the kids out of the area to see some different people."
