Wednesday, July 23, 2008

The Elmore Medical Center Foundation will host the 2008 Annual Golf Classic and Silent Auction on Saturday, Aug. 2.

The Golf Classic will raise money for a new colonoscope for the hospital surgery department and to support the growing endowment fund.

The 2008 Annual Golf Classic will begin with a continental breakfast and golfer registration starting at 7:30 a.m. at Desert Canyon Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Participants will tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start.

A BBQ chicken and ribs lunch with award presentations will follow the golf tournament. Golfers may participate for a $50 registration fee.

Non-golfers can attend the BBQ lunch for $25. Golfers are strongly encouraged to pre-register to reserve their place in the tournament.

Registration forms are available at the golf course and Elmore Medical Center as well as on-line at www.elmoremedicalcenter.org.

The foundation was established in the fall of 2001. Every year, the fundraising proceeds from the Golf Classic have been used to purchase much needed equipment for the hospital. In past years the foundation has purchase a Long Term Care Unit van, covered nearly half of the cost for the construction of the helipad, purchased a portable bone density scanner, provided funding towards the purchase of a new C-arm, mobile x-ray machine and supported the purchase of a new infant warmer and defibrillator.

"In an effort to continue to respond to the health care needs of the community our Foundation elected to purchase a new colonoscope. Everyone age 50 and older should consider having a colonoscopy to detect early signs of colon cancer and other health issues. In Idaho, the second highest number of cancer deaths is from colon cancer," said Doreen Krabbenhoft, Foundation Director. "A new colonoscope will help save lives."

A variety of donated items will be available for bidding in the silent auction. This year the list includes a Toshiba DVD player, a 10-round pass to Desert Canyon Golf Course, a nights stay at Cactus Petes with dinner for two, Roaring Springs passes, a handmade quilt, a five-year LifeFlight membership and many more items. Golfers and non-golfers alike are encouraged to stop by and bid. Silent Auction will close at the conclusion of the of the golf tournament at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Winning bidders may pick up their items at that time.

Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a 1993 four-wheel drive Suburban. The vehicle was donated to the Foundation by Bill and Bing Ringert. Tickets are $5 each with only 1,000 tickets printed. The drawing for the Suburban will be held on Air Force Appreciation Day, Sept. 6.

The Annual Golf Classic is the largest fundraising event conducted by the Elmore Medical Center Foundation. The event is organized by the 11 volunteer members on the Foundation Board of Directors. All proceeds from the event will be applied towards the purchase of the colonoscope and to support the endowment fund.

All donations to the Elmore Medical Center Foundation are tax deductible.
