Home runs and great hitting were the highlights in wins last Friday and Saturday as the 14U girls defeated Kuna and Homedale in youth girls softball action.

On Friday against Kuna it was Sarah Osborn's hot bat that gave her a home run in the 5th and a two-RBI game-winning single in the bottom of the 6th. The team combined for a batting average of .490.

On Saturday it was Dani Reed's turn with a single, which she scored on after stealing two bases, followed by a home run of her own.

Sarah Osborn continued to rip the ball, going 3-3 at the plate. Brittney Karst also had a triple. The game came down to a great defensive play, however. With runners in scoring position, Krissy Elliott dove to knock a ground ball down. She then dug it out of the dirt and made a great throw to Dani Reed at home plate, tagging the runner and ending the game. Their season record is now 5-2.

The 12U Black Stings team came away with victories for both of their games last week, bringing their season record to 4 wins and 0 losses.

They faced Kuna #2 on Monday and won that game12-2. The team came alive with their bats and had some great fielding to help acheive the win.

The 12U Black Stings then traveled to Boise to face the East Boise Wolf Pack on Thursday.

Maddy Karst started the game off with some great pitching. Following a double hit by Paige Aihukus the score was tied at 7 coming into the last inning.

"With some great hits and base stealing the 12U Black Stings were ahead 10-7 coming into the bottom of the final inning. Makenzie Carle came in to pitch in the last inning. She did a phenomenal job on the mound backed by a huge catch in left field from Madison Kean to end the game," a spokesperson for the league said.

12U Yellow Sting continued its winning season with two victories to bring its record to 6-0.

"Wins have been coming on the arm of a great pitcher and on some very strong bats," a league spokesperson said.

Hitting for the season has been highlighted by Tessa Pachner, batting .727 on the year with four doubles. Ashley Sessions has also been on fire with a batting average of .750 with two triples and a home run.

The girls traveled to Kuna and won 17-8 before facing an also undefeated Sting Black team last week.

Yellow came away with the victory 11-1 on t he legs of Meagan Pomerantz who had six stolen bases, two of those at home plate. Kendra Castillo also had a triple in the win.

The busiest of all the Mountain Home teams has been the 10U girls,

They started with a loss to Ada County, losing by 1 point. On the rebound the girls went 4-0-1 with wins over East Boise and Kuna. The tie was against Horseshoe Bend.

Wins have been highlighted by the pitching duo of Asheten Harrigan and Taylor Reed, who have combined for 58 strikeouts in six games. Defense has also been a key in the victories. It's rare in the 10U age group to see a double play but that is exactly what happened against East Boise. Kattera Skinner took a ground ball at short and made the play to first base. A quick thinking Jessica Ruffing saw the runner at third heading for home, Catcher Kalleen Hodgerson took the throw from Ruffing and tagged the runner out.

The team currently is 5-1-1.
