Lady Tigers on winning streak heading into districts

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers picked up three more softball wins last week as they get ready to close out the regular season and head into the postseason.

Mtn. Home 4

Skyview 0

Nickayla Skinner struck out 15 and scattered three hits as Mountain Home beat Skyview, 4-0, last Tuesday in conference softball at Mountain Home. Skinner helped her cause with a two-run home run.

Ashley Christiansen and Lindsey Sessions both had two hits, Sessions had a double, and Arlene Futch and Breann Christiansen both had hits and RBIs.

"It's always good to get that league win, but we definitely have our work cut out for us," Coach Chris Asbury said. "The defense played great, Nickayla pitched well, but we were asleep in the batter's box, so we've got to work on that.

"Right now our big hindrance is consistency. We'll come out one game and get 10, 12, or 14 hits and come out the next night and get maybe six, so we've got to work on that."

Mtn. Home 9

Bishop Kelly 1

Ashley Christiansen continued her hot hitting against Bishop Kelly pitching, getting three hits including a double and triple and knocked in four runs as the Lady Tigers downed Bishop Kelly, 9-1 Thursday at Bishop Kelly.

Nickayla Skinner limited Bishop Kelly to just four hits and an unearned run while striking out 13 batters as she improved to 13-2 on the season. She also had a triple and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Arlene Futch had three hits and scored three runs, Charde Huntington had an RBI double, Krista Gillaspy an RBI single, and Tawni Downen also had a hit.

"It's a big win, a definite confidence booster. Our bats were definitely live tonight," said coach Asbury after the game.

Lady Tigers 2

Minico 0

The Lady Tigers made it five-for five against Great Basin West teams, with a 2-0 shutout win over Minco Friday in Mountain Home.

Nickayla Skinner limited the Lady Spartans to just one hit while striking out 13 to improve to 14-2 overall. She helped her own cause with an RBI single.

Blas Lord had two hits, and Ashley Christiansen and Charde Huntington also had hits.

"Nice to get another win and keep the momentum rolling," said coach Asbury after the game. "We played a little uninspired tonight, but we'll take the 'w' and get back to work on Monday."

The win improved the Lady Tigers to 16-2 overall. They went into Tueday's home game against Emmett tied for first with Emmett, each 11-1 in conference. They close out their regular season schedule Thursday at home for Senior Night against Middleton.

"Senior Night against Middleton, and we'll honor our three seniors who have contributed to the program greatly over the last three years. We're looking to send them out with a 'w' as well on Thursday," said Asbury.

The District III 4A Softball Tournament starts Monday, May 5, at Bishop Kelly.
