Wednesday, April 23, 2008

The Elmore County Babe Ruth Girls Fastpitch Softball season opened with a flurry this week as the Mountain Home STING teams played eight games in six days.

As a combined league (10U, two 12U and a 14U team) they started the week with a record of seven wins, one loss and one win by forfeit.

In the 10U division, only one game was played -- at home against Kuna.

Mountain Home defeated Kuna 11-7 in its season opener. Taylor Reed had five strikeouts and pitched four innings before being relieved by Ashten Harrigan.

Taylor also had a triple, scored two runs and had four RBIs. Kaleen Hodgerson, Yasmine Magana, Alexis Newby, Shayla Reed, Danielle Simon and Kassandra Simon all scored runs.

In the 12U division, Sting A (Yellow) went 2-0 with wins against Kuna and East Boise. Mountain Home defeated Kuna at home 21-0.

Heather Adams had a strong game, pitching a no-hitter. The team combined for nine hits, 21 runs, and five RBIs.

They then traveled to East Boise and defeated the Bruins 17-2 behind another no-hitter pitched by Heather Adams.

Ashley Sessions hit a home run and the team had four hits, 17 runs, and 10 RBIs.

Sting B (Black) also started the season off 2-0 with wins against Kuna and Horseshoe Bend.

Maddy Karst pitched a strong game in the 25-0 defeat. She was relieved by Kelly Elliott.

Horseshoe Bend was defeated in a close game 10-8. Mackenzie Carle pitched a solid game before being relieved by Maddy Karst.

The 14U division was the busiest with four scheduled games last week.

They opened with a win at home against Kuna A, defeating them 9-2, then faced East Boise at home and lost to a great hitting team 1-13. It was then time to travel to Kuna to play the B team, defeating them 17-9, before receiving a win by forfeit with Kuna C being unable to show.

Sting's triple-threat pitching (Sierra King, Allie Draper and Courtney Christiansan) combined for 23 strike outs and only 12 earned runs. The team had outstanding hitting with a combined batting average of .381.

Hitting and scoring was led by Dani Reed who went seven for eight with seven RBIs, four walks and a triple against Kuna B.

This week sees an even busier schedule as the girls will play a combined 11 games this week. The 10U teams will play three games during the week and then finish Saturday with a clinic in the morning before facing Horseshoe bend at home stating at 2 p.m.
