Club wrestlers compete, Ryan qualifies for national championships

The Junior and Cadet Division wrestlers for the Mountain Man Wrestling Club of Mountain Home competed at Capital High School inthe State Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling Tournament last week.

Cadet Jon Ryan finished with the bronze and automatically qualified for the National Freestyle Championships in Fargo, N.D., in July.

Cadet Ryan Goldsby competed in both Greco and Freestyle but did not place in the medals.

Junior Ty Kleffner had to injury default in Greco due to a shoulder injury and was unable to wrestle on Saturday in the freestyle class. The Mountain Man Wrestling Club will petition for Kleffner to participate at the Nationals in Fargo.

At the same time as the Junior and Cadet State Tournament, in the other gym was the annual Capital City Classic for classes from Pre-Bantam to School Boy/Girl.

In Friday night's Greco competition, School Boy Charlie Shoemaker and Midget class Jacob Lucas finished with second place honors and Midget class Nicholas Shoemaker finished in third place.

Also wrestling but coming up short in the medal race was Schoolboy Austin Lucas.

On Saturday's Freestyle competition Pre-Bantam Tanner Keener continued his winning ways with a first-place finish, while Midget Class Kanoa Doronio finished second in a tough weight class.

Finishing with third-place honors were Cadet Jon Ryan and Schoolboy Charlie Shoemaker. Finishing in fourth place was Jacob Wendall in the Novice division.

Also participating but coming up just short of medals were Nicholas Shoemaker and Austin Lucas.
