Tiger tennis team earns first win of season

The Mountain Home Tigers boys tennis team picked up their first win last Tuesday at Emmett, and both the boys and girls had some good matches in a busy week of tennis.

Mountain Home won all three boys singles matches and both boys doubles matches last Tuesday at Emmett. Ricky Guadarrama won the #1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Andrew Martin took the #2 match, 6-2, 6-2, and Chris Oswald won the #3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Jordan Niksich and Joey Miller took the #1 boys doubles match, 6-2, 6-3, while Keth Galloway and Bryan Walsh won the #2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1. Mountain Home won the #2 mixed doubles in a marathon two-hour match, as Jared Mott and Carina Sauter won, 4-6, 7-6 (TB 10-8), 6-4.

Greg Walsh and Lauren Borgholthaus lost the #1 mixed doubles match, 0-6, 0-6.

In girls singles, Jessica Lewis won the #1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Hanna Smith lost the #2 match, 1-6, 3-6, and Bethany Johns lost the #3, 0-6, 1-6. In the #1 girls doubles match, Brittany Crownhart and Danielle Gorman lost 1-6, 0-6, as did Alyanna Wintermote and Caitlyn Smith in the #2.

Mountain Home traveled to Jerome Friday where they dropped the boys lost, 4-3, and the girls lost, 6-1 to Jerome.

In girls action, Carolyn Bailey was Mountain Home's only winner, winning the #2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Jessica Lewis lost at #1, 1-6, 3-6, and Bethany Johns lost at #3, 0-6, 0-6.

The girls doubles teams both lost.

Brittany Crownhart and Alyanna Wintermotte lost the #1 match, 3-6, 1-6, and Danielle Gorman and Caitlyn Smith lost #2, 0-6, 0-6.

Chris Oswald won the #3 boys singles, 7-6 (TB 7-5), 6-1.

Ricky Guadarrama lost the #1 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 5-7, and Andrew Martin dropped a 3-6, 0-6 match at #2.

Mountain Home won both boys doubles matches.

Mountain Home was back on the road Saturday, traveling to Burley for a non-conference tennis match with the Bobcats. The boys lost another close, 4-3 contest,while the girls lost, 6-1.

Ricky Guadarrama easily won the #1 boys singles match, 6-0, 6-2. Shane Mosley won his first varsity win, 6-1, 6-2, in #3 singles, and Andrew Martin lost a tough battle in the #2 singles match.

The #1 boys doubles team of Jordan Niksich and Joey Miller won an exciting three-setter, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Jared Mott and Collin Smith lost in three sets at #2, 5-7, 6-4, 1-6.

In girls play, Jessica Lewis earned the only win, taking the #1 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Hanna Smith lost a tough battle in the #2 singles, 2-6, 3-6, and Bethany Johns made a good comeback, but lost the #3, 1-6, 4-6.

Carolyn Bailey and Brittany Crownhart lost the #1 doubles, 0-6, 1-6, and Alyanna Wintermote and Danielle Gorman lost the #2 match, 3-6, 1-6.

In mixed doubles, Keth Galloway and Carina Sauter lost at #1, 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, and Tanner Carpenter and Lauren Borgholthaus lost the #2 match, 4-6, 0-6.

"Very cold temperatures, strong winds and poor court conditions made the day a challenge, but the players gave it their all and did well," said Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "I was very proud of the team."

This week is a busy week of tennis for the Mountain Home Tiger tennis team. They hosted Nampa in a conference match on base on Monday, and host Jerome today. The second half of the conference season begins tomorrow with Kuna at the Air Base. On Friday and Saturday several of the Tiger tennis members will travel to Boise to play singles matches in the Boise Classic hosted by Boise High School.
