Main MHAFB gate to be closed Monday

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

The main base gate at Mountain Home AFB will be closed for construction beginning next Monday, April 7, through November of this year.

With the closure of the main gate, personnel entering the base will use the Grand View gate, or the 31V gate located off Beet Dump Road, to get on or off the base during weekdays.

The Grand View gate will be open 24 hours a day and the 31V gate from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On weekends, the only gate that will be open will be the Grand View gate.

In addition, all visitors must use the Grand View gate, where they will receive their temporary pass.

The main gate will open temporarily for the Gunfighter Skies 2008 air show Sept. 13-14, in order to alleviate the large volume of traffic to the base that is anticipated at that time.

For morning traffic, both the inbound and outbound lanes at the Grand View Gate will be open to inbound traffic only from 6-8 a.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone leaving the base between those times will have to use the 31V gate.

Base officials stress the importance of following all traffic laws in the area, including posted speed limits.

There will be an electronic reader board as well as orange construction signs placed on Airbase Road to alert drivers of the closure before the Grand View Highway turnoff. Additional signage will be placed on Grand View Highway to warn drivers of increased traffic around the Grand View gate.
