Legacy Park vandalized, reward offered

Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Trees at Legacy Park were cut down and left at the park.

A 12-year-old Honey Locust near the gazebo at Legacy Park was chopped down some time on March 16 and the city of Mountain Home is offering a $200 reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandal who committed the crime.

"It was a malicious act, and from the city standpoint we're not going to tolerate this type of behavior," said Mayor Tom Rist.

The vandals did not remove the tree from the site, leaving the trunk lying in wood chips next to the stump.

Anyone who has information on the incident is being urged to call the Mountain Home Police Department at 587-2101, or city hall at 587-2104.

  • So where was MHPD? That took some time and some noise to cut that tree down.

I am sure that our childrens play grounds were safe. What the heck its only a tree.

These comments are the type that do not help to rebuild the confidence of the community with the police department.

More than likely, the PD was involved in a domestic or even stopping a DUI driver. Don't let the actions of one spoil the wonderful work of many others.

  • Hahahahaha. Good stuff, ME1. If that tree had been cut down by some middle-school girls, GUARANTEED Officer Parsons would have been all over it. ;-)

  • mrfreash28, I think thats one area we can agree upon. As for myself I would look for a disgruntled bronco fan with a saw in hand.

    Vandals Rock!

  • Or a very tall beaver. Only a beaver could have done this type of damage at night without making a sound. Instead of blaming the Elmore Youth or their parents, I say start looking for a very tall beaver before its too late. Maybe even a mexican beaver with any attitude. Look for that mad beaver before another tree falls victim!

  • $200.00 for a beaver pelt, not bad at all. How much if I catch it alive?

  • Kind of sad that someone would have to go to the park and cut down a tree. Wasteful. What is even more sad. That the state of this little park every time I have been there. The pond is always full of trash. Plastic bags bottles and other such things. How about they start spending some of that money on keeping the park cleaned up?

  • Have your fun with this, guys, but I think Old Guy has it right...The PD cannot be everywhere all the time, and by the way, one of the bloggers referred to the fact that someone would have heard the act as it was happening -- why didn't they report it? The PD are not mind readers.

  • I do not these blogs seriously and its a fun platform to get people stirred up.

You made some good comments MissMimi63 and in a small town such as yours I hope they do not fall on deaf ears.

I still say don't blame the kids, the parents or police but instead look for a very tall beaver.

Good luck with getting your park cleaned up.

Maybe the police can send an inmate crew out there for a day to clean up the park.

  • Dear Seniorlady,

What does mindreading and HEARING have in common? Nothing! Unless you are a member of the Tom Cruise Society for lame excuses.

Read my mind seniorlady look for the hidden beavers, they are out there. With a town such as Mtn. Home,it should be easy to find a tall beaver.

From my understanding, Legacy Park falls in the hands of Parks and Recreation Department for the care and maintenance. With the little walking paths, gazebo and waterfall it has become the perfect setting for wedding pictures, senior pictures and more. If Stan Franks and crew run out of hours in a day to get Legacy and the other parks cleaned up then my feeling is that as a community we can pitch in. If you use it, clean up after yourself, leave it in better condition than you found it. Frankly I llike the idea of getting prisoners out there to help clean, they have nothing better to do than sit and think of their next move, load um up, give them a trash bag and let them help out P & R! Our tax dollars are paying to keep them in jail, may as well have our parks cleaned by them. And just to show that I do have some humor in me, when they run out of cleaning jobs for them, my backyard could use some raking!!

As for the cut down tree, what a terrible shame! Should we auction off that beaver pelt to pay for the new tree Ghost Raider? LOL!

  • Why doesn't someone get the local police force to get some of the people housed in your local jail and take them outside for good old fashion trash pick, and park cleaning. I don't think that local tax payers would mind seeing prisoners picking up trash and the last I check its not a for of torture.

Of course it will require your local crime fighters to put down that donut and walk outside.
