Dan Kelly III, 69, of Mountain Home, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at his home, from an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church.Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Dan was born on Nov. 28, 1938, the son of Dan Kelly, Jr., and Louise Stephens Kelly, formerly of Las Cruces, N.M.

He attended schools in New Mexico and graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1957. He graduated from Wayland Baptist College of Plainsville, Texas, with a degree in music and education.

Dan married Bobbi Gaffney in June 1967 at Mountain Home Air Force Base and they had a daughter, Sandra. Dan had a previous marriage to Jerry Ann Williams, and they had a daughter, Melissa Kay.

Dan moved to Mountain Home in the early 1960s, where he taught high school, junior high music and social sciences until he retired in 1987.

Dan served as an Idaho State Representative from 1977-1985 and was the Democratic Legislative District Chairman.

Dan was an active member of his community, serving as the Congregational Church Choir Director in for many years in both Mountain Home and Boise. He also was the director of the El Korah Chanters, and was the Community Orchestra Director and the Community Choir Director.

Dan was a member of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the City Beautification Board. He was on the Military Affairs Committee and he was a member of the Congregational Church, the Democratic Party, the Masonic Orders and the El Korah Shrine.

In addition to music and politics, Dan was passionate about flying.

Dan is survived by: his wife, Bobbi; his daughter, Melissa, and her husband, Deren Kellogg; his daughter Sandra Kelly; one granddaughter; his mother, Louise Kelly; and his sister, Nancy Thoen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Kelly, Jr.
