Wednesday, March 19, 2008

All seven of Mountain Home Youth Soccer Association teams were in action Saturday, with five of the teams posting victories in their matches.

The U18 Boys notched their second win of the season in Middleton, with JJ Barroso providing the lone score of the day on a penalty kick. Goalie Bryan Walsh made several diving saves to preserve the 1-0 shutout win.

The U14 Boys overwhelmed Middleton Gold UI4 in their first game of the season, putting in 14 points to Middleton's 1 goal.

Gustavo Martinez had a three-goal hat trick and two assists on the day. Brent Sexauer put two scores in the back of the net, with Tyler Brennan, Drew Borgholthaus, Tyler Casey, Michael Daniels, Tyler McCloud, Tony McKenzie, Marco Rodriguez, Ryan Todd and Juan Silva each adding one goal for the Mountain Home Pumas.

After allowing one score early in the match, goalies Tomas Guillen and Michael Daniels shut out any further Middleton scoring.

Coach Mike Hedrick's U13 Boys continued the winning way as they defeated Kuna 8-1. Great teamwork and passing set up the first goal early as AJ Daniels put the ball in the back of the net on a pass from Jacob Hedrick.

Additional scores were tallied by Kylar Schilz (2), Brenden O'Neill (2), Jacob Hedrick, Ricardo Araujo and Austin Lucas.

Assists were provided by Daniels, Hedrick, O'Neill and Tyler Rios.

Strong defense by Brad and Cole Foreman, Chance Llewellyn and goalie Jack Richelieu kept Kuna from presenting any scoring threats.

The U11 Girls Glenn's Ferry Co-Pilots beat McCall 2-1 on scores from Anna Off and Sky Gennette.

Coach Patty Villavicencio said the squad "showed great teamwork. Roni Crone covered the field well in defense for us, Cassie and Lupita Villavicencio did well forward and Melissa Garza and Josie Bryant were outstanding as goalies in stopping numerous scoring attempts by McCall. What we are teaching the girls in practice is coming together on the field."

The U16 Boys continued the winning streak for Mountain Home by defeating Middleton 3-1.

Alex Martinez scored in the first half for the Tigers, with Austin Clark providing two insurance goals in the second half. "I'm proud of the way they played in their first match of the season," Coach Jeff Gibbons said. "Fernando Salas did a great job in goal for us. Defenders Ben Cumber, and Brian Raddatz played outstanding in defense today."

The U12 Boys and U17 Girls suffered defeats in their matches on Saturday, however individual game reports were not available at press time.
