Randi Ortega

Randi Ortega, of Hammett, became the first recipient of a $500 Elmore Medical Center Foundation Education Scholarship. Ortega is enrolled in the Registered Nursing Program at Apollo College.

The Elmore Medical Center Foundation Education Scholarship Fund was established with an initial donation made by Lynda Vilanova, former Chief Nursing Officer at Elmore Medical Center. Several additional donations followed, making it possible for the Foundation Board of Directors to begin distribution of the scholarship money to deserving candidates.

To be eligible for the scholarship, Ortega, who attended elementary school in Grand View, had to complete an application and write a short essay that addressed her educational and career goals and why she wants to work in healthcare.

In her essay she stated, "I have wanted to work in the healthcare field ever since my fourth grade teacher in Grand View taught a first aid class".

After graduation from Millville High School in Pennsylvania, Ortega became an Emergency Medical Technician and currently is certified at the intermediate level and actively runs with Gooding County Emergency Medical Services. She is also a Certified Nursing Assistant at Elmore Medical Center.

In June, Ortega was one of twelve CNAs who graduated from the CNA apprenticeship program piloted at Elmore Medical Center.
