The competitive youth soccer players of Mountain Home began their spring season with five of the seven teams seeing action on Saturday.

The U12 Boys lost their home opener at Aguirre Park to the Idaho Raptors 4-2, with goals scored by Brandon Bodily and newcomer Garrett McKenzie.

Coach Mike Hedrick's U13 Tigers found themselves in an evenly matched contest with Idaho Rush-Swoosh, but lost 3-1. After Tyler Rios put the first score of the game in the net, Rush rallied back to tie 1-1 at the half. Coach Hedrick was pleased with the passing skills of Ricardo Araujo, Brenden O'Neill and Jacob Hedrick. Defenders Brad Foreman and Chance Llewellyn were instrumental in stopping several Rush scoring drives.

The U18 Boys under Coach Mike Glover were the lone winners on the day, defeating Real Boise 2-0 on scores from Nick Gula and U16 guest player Eloy Guadarrama. Coach Glover said that "JJ Barroso and Lalo Martinez were strong in controlling the middle, our defense only allowed nine shots on goal and Christian Figueroa was solid in goal for us."

On the girls side, the U17 Girls went down to defeat in a 4-1 loss against Caldwell with Jessica Tindall providing the lone point for Mountain Home on a pass from Anastasia Sansone. Shianna Hawley and Adriana Garcia had several opportunities they could not convert into scores due to the efforts of the Caldwell defenders. Coach Dan Snelgrow said "Fatima Guillen, Kya Vines and Nicole Snelgrow worked hard to control Caldwell's speed. Amy Hymer made some great defensive saves for us. We could not control the midfield and got caught out of position too much in the second half. We have a young team that will get better with practice and playing together."

The Glenn's Ferry Co-Pilots Ul1 Girls were shut out 5-0 by Middleton. Coach Patty Villavicencio said "Gabriela Hernandez has really come into her game this season as a defender. Our new player, Sam Tveidt, showed great promise in her first appearance with her ball control and passing to her teammates." Anna Orr, Raegan Grigg and Lupita Villavicencio had solid scoring opportunities stopped by Middleton throughout the contest.
