JV boys drop conference games to Emmett, Middleston

The Mountain Home Tiger junior varsity boys basketball team dropped both conference games last week.

Emmett 53

Tigers 40

A late start by Mountain Home provided the Tigers a big hole from which they were unable to recover, as they lost at Emmett 53-40 in boys JV action at Emmett last Tuesday night.

Mountain Home did not score until D.J. Elliott hit a trey as the buzzer sounded ending the first quarter that made it 9-3, Emmett. The Tigers clawed back within two in the final minute of the second quarter, but trailed 19-15 at the half. Baskets by D.J. Elliott and Trevor Woodruff tied the game at 19-19 early in the third before Emmett shot out to a six point lead. The Tigers battled back to tie the game at 30-30, but Emmett again scored to take a 32-30 lead into the final quarter.

Emmett built the lead to nine points, 46-37, with 1:59 left. The Tigers narrowed the lead to 46-40 with 1:47 left, but Emmett hit a trey and four of five free throws down the stretch to win 53-40.

D.J. Elliott led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points. Gabe Anderson and Trevor Woodruff both netted nine, Logan Monasterio added six, and Dallin Dean hit three.

Middleton 56

Mtn. Home 42

Middleton outscored the Tigers 25-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 56-42 win Thursday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Vikings outscored them 13-4 the rest of the quarter to lead, 13-9 after one. A 9-0 run by the Tigers in the second quarter brought them back from an 18-11 deficit to lead 20-18. It was tied at 22-22 at halftime.

Mountain Home built up a five point lead late in the third and led 32-31 heading into the final quarter.

Middleton canned a trey to start the fourth and regain the lead, 34-32. D.J. Elliott hit a basket and sank a free throw to give Mountain Home the lead back, 35-34, with 7:12 left in the ball game.

Middleton then went on a 22-4 run to shoot to a 56-39 lead with 1:12 left. Dallin Dean hit a trey in the final minute to make it a 56-42 final.

Dallin Dean and Trevor Woodruff both scored in double figures, Dean had 14 and Woodruff, 13. Logan Monasterio added seven points, Corey Hurley had three and Gabe Anderson, two.

The Tigers open District III 4A JVTournament action Saturday at Kuna.
