JV boys beat Kuna, BK

The Mountain Home Tigers junior varsity boys basketball team picked up two conference wins in three games last week.

Tigers 68

Kuna 62

The Mountain Home Tigers had a good night shooting the ball and outscored Kuna, 68-62, last Monday night in boys JV basketball in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

The game was close all the way, with the lead going back and forth in the first half. Kuna led, 18-17, after one, but Mountain Home led, 33-30, at the half, part of an 11-0 run by the Tigers that reached 42-30 before Kuna finally scored in the third quarter.

Mountain Home took a 52-45 lead into the fourth quarter, and built up a 12-point lead before Kuna narrowed it down to the 68-62 final.

Gabe Anderson, Trevor Woodruff and D.J. Elliott all scored in double figures for the Tigers. Anderson led the way with 17 points, Woodruff added 13 and Elliott, 12. Logan Monasterio netted nine, Dallin Dean, eight, Chris Austin, four, Jared Sexauer and Corey Hurley both scored two, and Greg Walsh, one.

Bishop Kelly 45

The Tigers withstood a third quarter Bishop Kelly rally and battled back in the lead and held off the Knights, 51-45, Friday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

Mountain Home fell behind, 7-4, early, but went on a 7-0 run to close out the quarter and lead 11-7 after one. They stretched their lead to nine points, and led 21-16 at the half.

In the third quarter, after going up by 10, Mountain Home watched the Knights go on a 11-0 run to take the lead, 31-30, with 2:17 left in the period. Greg Walsh hit a trey to put the Tigers back up, 33-31, and after the Knights tied it at 33, D.J. Elliott's basket gave the Tigers the lead, 35-33, heading into the final quarter.

Mountain Home built up a 10-point lead, 45-35, midway through the fourth quarter, and went six-for-six from the free-throw line down the stretch to hold off the Knights, 51-45.

D.J. Elliott led the Tigers with 21 points, including eight of nine from the charity stripe. Gabe Anderson and Logan Monasterio both added 10 points, Jared Sexauer, four, Greg Walsh and Corey Hurley both scored three points.

Skyview 51

Mountain Home never could quite get over the hump Saturday afternoon at Skyview, as they dropped a tough, close 51-47 contest to the Hawks.

Mountain Home fell behind early and trailed 15-9 after a quarter.

The Tigers battled to within a point, 18-17, on a trey by D.J. Elliott with 4:50 left in the second, but the Hawks went on an 11-3 run to take a 29-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Tigers battled back to tie the game at 33-33, with 2:18 left in the third, but trailed, 39-35, heading into the fourth. They tied the game three times in the fourth, but never could take the lead, and came up short, 51-47.

Gabe Anderson led the Tiger JV with 17 points hitting four treys. Dallin Dean and D.J. Elliott both added 10 points, and Trevor Woodruff and Logan Monasterio each had five to round out the scoring.
