The Mountain Home boys basketball team increased its conference win streak to three before losing to the Skyview Hawks Saturday afternoon at Skyview.

Tigers 71

Kuna 60

The Mountain Home Tigers won their second straight conference boys

basketball game last Monday night when they downed the Kuna Kavemen, 71-60, in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but Kuna fought back on a 13-2 run to take a 13-10 lead. The Tigers regained the lead as Chris Maholick nailed a trey near the end of the quarter to put Mountain Home up, 15-13, after one.

Kyle Kerfoot scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter as the Tigers extended their lead to 39-29 at the half.

Mountain Home's lead went back and fourth from six to 10 points in the third quarter, with the Tigers up, 50-44, heading into the fourth.

Kuna came within two of the Tigers, 50-48, with 6:54 left, but then Nick Barrie and Danny Snelgrow hit treys, and Alex Campbell hit a basket to push the lead back to 10, 68-58, with 5:35 left.

Mountain Home built their lead up to 15 points on a couple occasions, and won, 71-60, avenging an earlier loss at Kuna.

Tiger basketball coach Tony Kerfoot was pleased with the efforts by his Tiger squad.

"We've been playing pretty good basketball for a while, and it's nice to have a little bit of breathing room, and not come down to a nailbiter."

Coach Kerfoot was especially pleased with the way they kept their poise when Kuna whittled the lead down to two points.

"I think we were a little bit more poised in that situation, where maybe before we've not worked for the best shot -- and I saw signs of that coming tonight, too, where they were putting a little pressure and we were one pass and firing a 3 -- but I think we got composed and yes, they were 3s, but there were a couple more passes into it, we had a little more time and we hit some big shots."

Kyle Kerfoot led the Tigers with a career-high 20 points. Jake Posey added 11 points. Danny Snelgrow scored a season-high nine points, Alex Campbell, eight, Nick Barrie and Travis Gordon both scored seven, Chris Maholick, four, Zane Bundy, three, and Jordan Cisna, two.

Bishop Kelly 50

The Tigers won their third straight conference game Friday night, downing the Bishop Kelly Knights, 57-50 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home shot out to a 7-2 lead over the Knights, but Bishop Kelly battled back to within one, 13-12, after a quarter. The lead went back and forth in the second quarter, with Bishop Kelly on top, 31-29, at the half.

The Tigers fell behind by eight, 37-29 early in the third period, but went on a 12-0 run to go up 41-37. Bishop Kelly hit a trey at the end of the quarter to cut the Mountain Home lead to one, 41-40, heading into the final quarter.

Mountain Home lost the lead early in the fourth, but a trey by Alex Campbell gave the Tigers the lead for good, 46-45, with 3:26 left. The Tigers missed six free throws in a row during a 40-second stretch late in the game, but still kept the lead, and hit four of their final five free throws to win, 57-50.

"B.K.'s young, they've got some very talented kids and they're scrappy and they're hanging in there -- their record doesn't indicate it but they're playing some people tough," said Coach Kerfoot of Bishop Kelly after the game.

"We weren't as sharp and I wasn't as happy with our defense in the first half, and I don't think we were real sharp execution-wise offensively, but down the stretch we came through and kids were making plays down the stretch, and that's probably as important as anything."

Kyle Kerfoot, Alex Campbell and Jake Posey all scored in double figures for the Tigers. Kerfoot and Campbell both hit 14, Posey had 11, and brought down 12 rebounds. Chris Maholick added nine points, Nick Barrie hit four, Danny Snelgrow, three, and Travis Gordon, two.

Skyview 51

Mtn. Home 37

The Skyview Hawks pulled away from Mountain Home in the second quarter and the Tigers were never able to mount any sort of a rally to get close after that, as the Skyview Hawks downed the Tigers 51-37 Saturday afternoon at Skyview.

In a game that was originally scheduled for last Thursday, but moved to Saturday afternoon because of bad weather, the Tigers battled Skyview tough for a quarter, leading twice and forcing four ties before the Hawks shot out to a 17-12 lead after a quarter.

A 13-3 run by Skyview to start the second period pushed the Hawk lead to 30-15. Skyview led, 32-19 at the half.

Mountain Home could get no closer than 10, at 36-26, in the third quarter, and the Tigers trailed, 42-29, heading into the fourth.

The Tigers managed to cut the lead to 43-35, midway through the fourth quarter, but Skyview hit five straight points to push the lead back to 48-35, with 1:36 left. It ended 52-37 Skyview.

"We weren't in good sync, offensively, and we went through a big scoring drought in that second quarter, and Skyview's a good ball club and they took some things at us and put some points on while we took some time off, and we found ourselves down about 14," said Coach Kerfoot after the game.

"Part of that being out of sync was they went to a one-three-one zone, and we haven't seen that and we weren't real well prepared for it.

"This has been a crazy week. We start off with a game on Monday, and then we go two days without a practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then come back and play a couple more games in the end, one being cancelled and then made up, it's been a hard week, and we didn't come through it ideally and I can see why we see some things a little bit different at the end of the week."

Alex Campbell led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points, Jake Posey added 11. Kyle Kerfoot scored eight points, Jordan Cisna, two, Danny Snelgrow, Nick Barrie and Chris Maholick each had one point.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-11 overall, and 5-6 in league play. Mountain Home faced the Emmett Huskies last night at Emmett, and host Middleton for Senior Night Thursday night. They close out their regular season schedule next Tuesday at Columbia.
